The diamondback terrapins are hatching and volunteers are needed to help with their journey back to Hundred Acre Cove.

Several excluders, used to protect the eggs, require removal as soon as the hatchlings emerge form their shells.

Volunteers are asked to log the number of living baby terrapins and those that didn’t make it. The key to the large excluder and log book are at the Nockum Hill site.

The turtle hatching is expected to run through ASeptember. To signup, please send an e-mail to Charlotte at c_sornborger@hotmail.com.

On August  8, seven terrapins were removed from the first excluder. Three were discovered on August 9. Charlotte suggests carrying the young terrapins to the edge of the wooded area.
