An astonishing 42 diamondback terrapin hatchlings were released from the nesting ground at the land trust's Doug Rayner Wildlife Preserve at Nockum Hill Saturday. Several excluders, used to protect the eggs, require removal as soon as the hatchlings emerge form their shells. BLCT vice president and dragonfly author, Ginger Brown, led another successful family exploration for 'dashers, skimmers, and dancers' at Echo Lake on July 14. Several of the 135 dragonfly species native to Rhode Island were observed.
