The Barrington Land Conservation Trust invites you to #OptOutside at a special property open only by guided tour on Sunday November 26 at 2pm. Land Trusts across Rhode Island are encouraging everyone to get outdoors over this Thanksgiving weekend. The Johannis Farm Nature Preserve is a combination of woodland, fields, swamp and marsh. The trail is a loop that takes approximately 1 hour to traverse without stopping and proceeds through woods, out onto marshes and across open fields.

The trail can be wet, so water resistant shoes are recommended. The walk will proceed unless it is raining.

Questions? You may contact walk leader, Bill Kirkpatrick, at bkirk192@gmail.com or by phone at 207-404-1292. Directions: Parking is limited at the trailhead, so we will meet at the parking lot of Sowams Elementary School, 364 Sowams Rd., Barrington. This parking area is on the southern side of Sowams Elementary School. Traveling from Bristol/Warren north on route 103, look for the sign “Welcome to Barrington” which is on the right, after crossing a bridge. Take the first right after the bridge onto Sowams Rd. and proceed approximately 1.5 miles to the school, which will be on the left. Traveling south on Rte. 114 (Wampanoag Trail), take a left onto Massasoit Ave. at the traffic light by the white church. You will travel over a bridge and at the end of Massasoit Ave., turn left onto New Meadow Rd., then a right onto Kent St. immediately after the New Meadow Elementary School. At the end of Kent St., turn left and travel north on Sowams Rd. to the Sowams Elementary School which will be on the left. Turn left into the first entrance and parking is on the left. Our event host will meet everyone in that parking lot. We will wait for 15 minutes at the parking before proceeding in carpools, as needed, to the trail head.
