The Farm Is Saved!

Great news!. The farm has been saved. This week, BLCT reached its funding goal and aims to officially purchase Vendituoli Farm this spring. Thank you to everyone who supported the campaign. Community participation was incredible. We look forward to having you all at the farm soon. More details to follow.

The next Tuesday Trail will meet on February 13th, 2018.   We will  be working at Pic-Wil  with ongoing forest management.  A small group will also be working at Sowams Woods doing trail maintenance and cleanup. Bring your usual hand clippers and/or loppers.  There will be additional tools available. We will be meeting in the Pic-Wil parking area on Washington Rd.(across from Tallwood Rd) at 10 am. weather permitting. New volunteers are always welcome!  No experience necessary.

The Barrington Land Conservation Trust invites you to #OptOutside at a special property open only by guided tour on Sunday November 26 at 2pm. Land Trusts across Rhode Island are encouraging everyone to get outdoors over this Thanksgiving weekend. The Johannis Farm Nature Preserve is a combination of woodland, fields, swamp and marsh. The trail is a loop that takes approximately 1 hour to traverse without stopping and proceeds through woods, out onto marshes and across open fields. BLCT past president and honorary board member Charlotte Sornborger will present an overview of the diamondback terrapin project. The presentation will be held Dec. 13 at the Hope & Main food incubator in Warren at 7 p.m. The Warren Land Trust invites you to their annual meeting as part of the event. Charlotte was recognized as the Distinguished Naturalist in 2014 on the longterm study of the diamondback terrapin population at Hundred Acre Cove. This is the only studied eastern seaboard population known to be holding its own or increasing in population. Come to learn more about this long-lived, engaging terrapin.

The proposed 850-1,000 megawatt power plant in Burrillville, R.I. will use up to one million gallons of water per day.
