Location:

The trailhead for Lombardi Park is located on the East Bay Bike Path approximately one-quarter mile east of the juncture with South Lake Drive in Barrington, RI.

Overview:

This 3.3-acre preserve was donated in 2005 by Salvatore Lombardi, Jr., Anthony Lombardi and Joseph Lombardi. This scenic and historic site is part of the Sowams National Heritage District. The adjacent pond, Little Echo Lake, was used for many years in an ice-making business. The wells on the original lot were used as a high-quality emergency water source by the town after the 1938 hurricane. As a conservation area, this property will continue to protect the quality of water which drains through it and eventually into Narragansett Bay – a nationally designated estuary of importance.

Lombardi Park includes a variety of habitats which are beneficial to wildlife: mature forest, wetlands and freshwater pond. Many woodland birds and waterfowl considered rare in Rhode Island frequent this area during migration and breeding seasons. Lombardi Park is part of a scenic, green buffer along the East Bay Bike Path, the oldest and the most heavily used bike path in Rhode Island.

Access Level:

Lombardi Park is a public access property, open to the public from dawn to dusk, 365 days a year.

Know Before You Go:

Dogs must be kept on leashes. You may bicycle to the trail, but bikes are not allowed on the hiking trails.
